3ds is the greatest console of all time no questions asked
Aria of Sorrow is by far my favorite Castlevania. I last played it on a hacked DSi with GBARunner2, and I'm pretty sure if you put Gbarunner2 on an R4 you can play those GBA saves on whatever DS or 3DS you put the cartridge in just like DS games/saves.
You cannot get Pokémon Heart Gold/Soul Silver so what you said about being able to play every title isn't exactly true lol

My new 3ds XL is a beast. CFW makes it amazing to do hacker shit. I can send files straight from my PC to my 3Ds without taking out the SD card. At this point I like hacking the console more than playing the games lol. Still, my 3ds is a Pokemon machine.

3ds still provides better bang for your bucks. you can play gb,gbc,gba,ds,nes,snes,sega gg, genesis,tggpx 16 games to name a few.

I just bought a new 3ds and I think it’s worth it.
I prefer both the 3ds and Vita as far as taking them out of the house. I use the Switch portably as far as playing it in bed or on the couch while my wife is watching one of her snore-inducing TV shows.
But yeah, 3Ds endures and the graphics don't bother me, but I'm one of those people who can go from a NES game to something like the last of us 2 and not flinch. Graphics aren't unimportant but gameplay is king.
I bought the 3ds a few days ago and this comes out… What a wierd coincidence 😄

The Anbernic RG300 is undoubtedly the best vertical handheld yet, the Anbernic RG280V is the best square and compact handheld today, the Powkiddy RGB10 is the best horizontal non-Android handheld under a 100 dollars, the Retroid Pocket is the best Android handheld under 100 dollars, the Powkiddy V90 is the best, (and only) handheld emulator (that doesn't use android) with a clamshell design. It's not too expensive either! Last but 100% not least, the Anbernic RG351P is arguably the best horizontal all-around solution for retro gaming, but a bit pricey.

Switch screen protector user here. I wish I put more time into my 3DS, I dropped and broke my launch one and took way too long to get it fixed so I kinda lost interest, but I’m slowly getting some essentials for it. Heck of a library
Just spent $650 to get a purple 2ds and Hylian shield 2ds. No regrets. Portrait was best ds castlevania, fight me.

Still play my new 3dsxl about as often as I play my switch. Funny enough, I also have a switch lite, and I never use it xD
I love both New 3DS XL and Switch Lite. But my New 3DS XL just lasts forever. The battery life is insane. And not to mention I bought an already used model too.
Having a modded new 2ds xl and vita in my bag, i have access to everything i could need till i doe!
I have a Switch with CFW and this thing is rocking SNES, NES, and more but I still am using my 3DS quite a bit too after about a year or so of it being dormant. And mine isn't even modded. At some point I'll get around to it though.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the emulators or homebrew considering you love stuff like that
The 3DS family are some of my favorite consoles. You even forgot to mention how easy it is to homebrew it, expanding its capabilities.

I'm enjoying some of the free titles on Switch and it's a great party console, but my release model PSP, 2DS and DSi will always be my backup devices that I take wherever I go.

I got my N2dsxl in 2019 and my Switch Light in 2020, so I still play both and have a huge backlog of second hand 3ds games to go through. I agree with you the 3ds is a great buy, get one before it becomes an overpriced collector's item. Oh and I put protective casings and screens on all my consoles :)
I put a glass screen lens on my lite day 1. That being said it’s been sitting in my drawer for the last 6months while I catch up on my Vita backlog 😂
